5 Guidelines for a Better Life

I Learned These The Hard Way

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Creative where every week you get 3 tips, 1 book, and 1 quote to help you become a better business person and marketer.

Before we dive into today’s message, my new book is almost out! Be sure to pre-order using the link HERE.

Onto today’s message:

Our lives are full of unique circumstances.

There’s no one-size-fits-all to living a successful and fulfilling life.

But, there are universal guidelines.

Here are 5 that have most impacted my life…

These 5 lessons have served as the guidelines that have shaped my journey as a CEO, entrepreneur, and overall life enthusiast.

These insights aren't just about business.

They're about relationships, physical well-being, mental health, etc.

1. Confronting Reality

Let's kick things off with a dose of reality.

It's easy to get caught up in our worries and fears, imagining worst-case scenarios that may never come to pass.

But, by facing challenges head-on and embracing the present moment, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities for growth.

2. Surrounding Yourself with Greatness

They say that you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

That's why I'm a firm believer in choosing our circle wisely.

Surround yourself with individuals who inspire, challenge, and uplift you.

3. Mastering Self-Control

Battling with the desire for instant gratification is something we all deal with.

Try to avoid making decisions in the heat of the moment.

Take a step back, breathe, and respond with clarity and composure.

4. Time Above All

One of the few things you can’t get back is time.

Time is the most precious commodity we have.

Prioritize your time and invest it in activities and relationships that bring you joy and fulfillment.

5. Life is Temporary

Lastly, the thing few want to think about:

Mortality.

It's a sobering thought, but one that reminds us to live each day to the fullest.

Make every moment count.

Chase our dreams, cherish our loved ones, and savor the beauty of life's fleeting moments.

I hope these resonate with you as much as they've impacted me.

Like I said at the start, your circumstances are unique, but these principles are timeless and universal.

3 Tips

Don’t Get Distracted by System-Searching: It’s easy for people looking to optimize everything to get trapped in the system black hole.

We can get so caught up in trying to find the perfect system to solve all our problems that we end up creating problems.

If you have a good system, consider how it can be better, but don’t spend time on optimization that should be spent getting stuff done.

Clean Your Desk: A cluttered workspace takes up mental energy and space that could be used for the project you’re working on.

If that sounds fake, try it out. Keep your physical workspace meticulously clean and clear of clutter for a couple of days and see what happens to your stress levels and ability to focus.

End-of-Day Ritual: Especially if your commute is just walking out of your home office and down the stairs, having a ritual you go through at the end of your workday gives you a mental transition from work to the rest of your life.

Choose a few actions that help you feel ready for what’s coming tomorrow and ready to close the workday, like reviewing the next day’s calendar or writing down the first few tasks you’d like to complete the next day.

1 Book

Extreme Ownership, by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin: If you want a kick in the pants reminding you to take ownership and responsibility for your life, this book can take care of that.

Seriously, read it and realize how much better you could be at this and how much better that could make your life.
